Co-op Live Reveals New Canal-Side Vision for Manchester's Etihad Campus
Something big is brewing along Manchester’s Etihad Campus. Co-op Live, already famous as the city’s go-to spot for major events, is planning a sprawling canal-side development right next to its main venue. If you’ve ever wandered the south terrace area, picture it buzzing with a new café, bar, kitchen, and a merch shop—all designed to blend in with the arena’s modern look. The idea? Make the whole neighborhood more lively, not just during concerts, but all week long.
The project aims to serve up more than just food and drinks. This isn’t just a place to grab a latte or a pint. With room for around 600 people, the space wants to double as a smaller venue for community events, social get-togethers, or just a chill hangout for locals and visitors when there’s no show happening. The atmosphere is set to be open and multi-use, easily flipping between private parties, public gatherings, or even as a quiet daytime spot for remote work or meetings.
Community Features and What Comes Next
Accessibility is front and center in these new plans. Co-op Live says there’ll be dedicated toilets, baby changing spots, and an accessible lift to make sure everyone can enjoy the new site without hassle. For Manchester families or those with young kids, this is a welcome upgrade. And if you care about flexibility, the team is promising a venue you can hire for private functions or use for local initiatives.
Before anything gets built, Co-op Live wants people to see what’s coming. They’re holding a public exhibition on Thursday, 10 April 2025, from 5pm to 8pm at the venue’s Backstage Club (just head to Entrance G if you’re going). You’ll get to see the designs and ask questions. After this open house, Co-op Live plans to put their formal application in front of Manchester City Council, who’ll weigh up community feedback and planning details before giving the go-ahead. Residents and anyone interested will get more chances to comment as part of the city’s consultation process.
If you’re already picturing yourself sipping coffee by the canal or catching up with friends in a stylish bar before the next gig, this could soon be your reality. Co-op Live hopes this new spot will give the area more reasons for people to visit—whether there’s an event or not.
