Bug Invasion Takes Over Fortnite: What’s New in 'Shock N Awesome'

The new season of Fortnite doesn’t just shake things up—it dumps a pile of squirmy bugs right in the player’s path. Chapter 6 Season 4, called Shock N Awesome, hit the servers on August 7, 2025, and it’s impossible to miss the creepy crawlies now invading every square foot of the island. Since the season kicked off, the game world is full of purple goop and writhing nests, giving the map a vibe straight out of a sci-fi monster movie.

If you caught Fortnite’s wild Super Showdown event, you’ll remember the giant tentacled monster that everyone teamed up to beat down—Superman in tow. Remnants of that tentacle smackdown are all over the map. Abandoned tentacles litter the ground, and the bug infestation feels like the nasty sequel nobody asked for, but that’s exactly what keeps things fresh here.

This season, players aren’t just lone survivors; they’re part of O.X.R. (Operation Xeno Response), a high-energy anti-bug force trying to clean up the mess. Demon's Domain didn’t just get a paint job—it’s been totally transformed into the hotspot for all things buggy and gross

Weapons, Collabs, and Boons: All the New Stuff

Let’s talk firepower. Fortnite’s latest batch of weapons goes big on chaos. You’ve got the Leadspitter 3000 minigun for when you just want to mow down everything in sight, the Sweeper Shotgun for up-close business, and the O.X.R. Rifle if you’re into rapid-fire bug suppression. There’s also the Wrecker Revolver (perfect for sharpshooters) and the Laser-guided Swarmstrike rocket launcher—a new favorite for blowing up bug hives from a safe distance.

Major franchises have crashed the party too. This time it’s a double whammy: Power Rangers and Halo. The Battle Pass packs in Power Rangers skins, letting players suit up as the Red, Black, Pink, Yellow, Blue, or Green Ranger. Mid-August, there’s the Mighty Morphin Bundle in the shop, loaded with all five classic Ranger outfits plus the Go Go Power Rangers jam track.

Some fan service doesn’t stop there. Battle Pass owners will also get a shot at the Dino Megazord Outfit. Mark your calendar for September 16, because Megazord-themed quests unlock then. The game promises even more Power Rangers fun with a Megazord takeover event sometime in the middle of the season.

And the Halo drop? The legendary UNSC Spartan skin comes with the Battle Pass, which means you’ll be rocking Master Chief style while zapping bugs left and right. It’s not just flashy crossovers, either—original Fortnite characters like Yoo-mi, Agent Patch, Battle Gamer Mae, Lt. Ripp Slade, and Onyx Winter are all suit-up options this time around.

For gameplay, Chapter 6 Season 4 is mixing things up with “boons.” These are basically power-ups that you can snag during matches to boost your stats. Grabbing the right boon at the right moment might mean the difference between getting flattened or snagging that victory royale. It’s a new layer of strategy, and already players are coming up with ways to time their boon-collecting perfectly for endgame standoffs.

With so many changes, the island feels completely new again. All those purple egg sacs and hazardous nests tell the story of an island under siege. The seasonal downtime may’ve been a drag, but the moment those servers came back online, players dived into a wild, bugged-out adventure with endless new ways to play. If you fancy yourself a Power Ranger, a Spartan, or just someone who likes blowing up bugs with high-powered weapons, there’s plenty to chew on this season.
